Tis the season to spring clean. Time to declutter your home. And what better time then when you are spending these weeks at home? You can get your whole family involved in tidying up the home together.

Here are four of the most creative ways in which you can declutter your home.

Start with a new perspective

Take the time to imagine that you’re viewing your home for the first time as a visitor. This means that you should pretend that you’re visiting a friend’s new home for the first time and imagining how you would feel seeing how cluttered their home would be. From there, take some time to write down what your first impressions are in regards to how clean and organized the home itself is. Once you finish this step, begin planning on how you can make changes.

Get the family involved

Consider obtaining help with your decluttering from a friend or family member. Take them through your home and allow them to make suggestions on a handful of larger-sized items that can either be thrown away or given to someone else. In the event that you defend an item that they choose and you decide you want to keep it, the only way that can be done is if they agree with your reasoning. If they choose to disagree, then that would be a sign that it’s time to get rid of whatever the item is as a way to help with decluttering your home.

Start with clothing

Take the time to go through all of the clothes that you never wear anymore. It could be because they are worn out, they no longer fit, etc. Once you have finally selected all of the clothes that you don’t wear, simply fold them and place them into a box or bag, or even better, hang them on clothes hangers. From there, take them to your local charity shop or thrift store and donate them. By doing this, you will be giving other needy people in your community the chance to have clothes that they may otherwise need due to not having much of any, thereby doing an extremely good deed for your community.

Use a timer

In the event that you may be new to the idea of decluttering, chances are you may likely be stressed out simply thinking about the idea. Thankfully, there’s a great way to help build momentum so that you can achieve your goal. By using a timer, whether it’s a traditional timer, a timer on your cell phone, a timer on your microwave, etc., simply set a limit of five minutes, select a room, and begin cleaning as much as you can, making sure that you go at your own pace. Once the timer goes off, stop. This is something that you can do every day until you decide to either increase the time or begin to declutter without the use of a timer.
